Desirée – the café chair that blurs the line between indoors and out

Desirée was designed in the 1950s by Yngve Ekström, yet the timeless design feels just as contemporary today as it did in 1954.

During the 1950s, Yngve Ekström designed several pieces of garden furniture. Two chairs stood out: Pigalle and Desirée. Shaped like hand fans, they were made from plastic cord, similar to the classic dish racks produced in Vaggeryd at the time.

In 2010, Swedese reintroduced Desirée to its collection, with a slightly more robust construction.

Blurring the line between indoors and outdoors was a key idea for many architects in the 1950s—an idea Desirée embodies.

Swedese resumed production of Desirée in 2010.

Desirée was designed in 1954 by Yngve Ekström.
