Sofia Dahlén
Biography
A genuine long-term philosophy about things made for humans. Sofia Dahlén is a Swedish designer, living in London and designing furniture and interiors for people and their five senses. This may sound more obvious than it is - to work for the end-user and for those who live in the environment. And not just to think of the visual and functionality, but also the tactile.
For Sofia Dahlén it's important that the materials are attractive to live with, both for the body and to touch. An example of her humanitarian design is the armchair Solino, which she made for Swedese when she was still a student. It has a cosy interior, soft and comfortable, like an embracing pair of arms to creep inside. The exterior, however, is more austere and hard, like a shell that protects you from the world outside.
Sofia Dahlén was born in 1969 in Stockholm and received her Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design in 1998 at the School of Design and Crafts at Gothenburg University. Since her studies, she has been employed at an architect office in Stockholm - in projects that concern everything from offices, schools, theatres, churches to private homes - and with the design of such things as furniture, textiles and porcelain under her own name in London.
