Marina Bautier
Biography
A design approach based on function. Marina Bautier creates multifunctional furniture and objects without hampering the design. While she gives priority to simple structures and materials, she also carefully considers appearance and implementation. Shying away from technological rhetoric, Marina emphasises the beauty and the modernity of familiar materials, especially of wood. One example is the seemingly simple yet stylish easy chair Cruiser for Swedese, often lauded in the international design press.
Born in Brussels in 1980, the Belgian designer graduated from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College and set up her design practice in 2002. She has since gone on to refine her own design language, and produced work for manufacturers such as Idée, De La Espada, Ligne Roset, Case and Swedese.
In 2007 Elle Decoration UK considered Marina Bautier one of "the names we're watching" and she has recently been prized for "Best use of Material: wood" by Wallpaper Magazine.
